“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” — John Dewey

One-on-One Math Tutoring

One-on-one math tutoring is useful and enriching for all students. It helps you address knowledge gaps, learn the proper steps for solving problems, prepare for tests, and gain confidence in your math skills, thus promoting academic progress. It is also one of the most effective interventions for students overcoming learning loss due to missed instruction time.

We personalize our approach to your needs and provide individualized attention and patient, precise explanations that are hard to come by in a classroom of thirty or more students.

Specializations

Our math tutors specialize in middle school and high school math subjects and enjoy working with students at all levels. Whether you have fallen behind in Algebra or want to master the challenging material in AP and IB classes, our math tutoring will help you reach your goals.

We get to know you and your interests so we can meet you where you are. We carefully explain complex math concepts using simple words and everyday examples that will be meaningful and memorable. We also help you hone your problem-solving skills, preparing you to tackle challenges and develop new understandings on your own.

How to Choose a Math Tutor

When choosing a math tutor, we encourage you to shop around. It is important to find someone who is the right fit for you. Below is a checklist to help you in this process. A good math tutor will have the following qualities.

  • Subject expertise, including a degree in Math.
  • Experience with teaching math and tutoring students, along with good references.
  • A personable demeanor and good listening skills.
  • A knack for using real-world examples to make concepts understandable.
  • Access to well-designed practice problems so the student learns by doing.
  • Good time management skills to ensure coverage of all lesson materials.

Of course, aside from the above, it is vital that you find someone you respect and feel comfortable with. That will foster an effective collaborative relationship where you can improve your math skills.

“David and Patrick have been extremely helpful with our children while they study language arts, math and Spanish. Both are extremely knowledgeable, patient and have a true love for teaching and seeing their students thrive. They have gone above and beyond in many ways (bringing extra books of interest for our kids to read, making last-minute Zoom calls to prep for quizzes, etc.) and are always willing to work with our busy schedule to assist. We highly recommend them and Tutor Visions!”
